SFWRUNWAY · Call for entries
Sustainability Design Competition
One designer will show a capsule collection on the runway at SFWRUNWAY's LA Fashion Week in March 2027 — fully produced, at no cost.
The brief
Design a four-look capsule from what already exists.
Three wearable looks and one showpiece. We're looking for designers who can make constraint produce better clothes, not worse ones — a considered material strategy, not a sustainability claim attached after the fact.
At least 60% of each look, by surface area, must come from one or more of the following:
- Deadstock or end-of-roll fabric — unused yardage that would otherwise be discarded
- Post-consumer garments or textiles — reworked, reconstructed or disassembled
- Offcuts and factory waste — including your own studio waste
- Certified recycled fibre — minimum 50% recycled content
- Natural fibres to a recognised standard — organic, regenerative or equivalent, certification named

What you submit — sketches only

Sketches or digital renderings from your proposed capsule. Nothing needs to be made to apply.

Maximum 500 words on your concept and, specifically, where your materials come from.

Finished garments, not mood boards. All of it as one PDF, 10 MB maximum.
Entry costs you nothing in materials and an afternoon of your time. Garments are produced only if you are selected.
Who can enter
- 18 or over at the date of entry
- Currently enrolled at a college or university, or graduated within the last three years
- Fewer than four years of professional fashion design experience — internships and study do not count
- Individual entries only. One entry per designer
- Open internationally. Travel to Los Angeles is the winner's own arrangement
How entries are judged
Sustainability and material innovation — 40%. Rigour of sourcing, honesty of the claim, and whether the constraint made the work more interesting.
Creativity and originality — 35%. A point of view we have not seen thirty times this season.
Wearability and construction — 25%. Assessed at the final stage, on finished garments.
Judged by the SFWRUNWAY production team alongside industry judges and faculty judges nominated by partner institutions.
